How I find clothes at the thrift store✨

Something I hear a lot is “how do you always find the best things at the thrift store??!” so these are my tips and tricks☺️
1. Patience!!! Most people get really overwhelmed with all the clothes/items at the thrift store and usually don’t even know where to start. The key to finding great pieces is taking your time and looking at EVERYTHING. Yes, EVERYTHING! The best time to go is when you don’t have any time constraints so you can go at your own pace. See it as a fun treasure hunt so make sure to hydrate and get plenty of food in your system before you go shopping!!
2. Idea of what you’re looking for: it always helps to go to the thrift with some idea of what you’re looking for because it narrows down your focus if you’re someone that gets overwhelmed easily. If your focus is on finding a fun button up shirt, you’ll begin to notice all the printed button ups. Even if you can’t find the exact thing you’re looking for, this is where tip #3 comes in…
3. Creative vision: If I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for, I find things that are similar and see how I can alter it to create what it is I want. ORRR I use a creative vision to imagine how I would style and put together an outfit with something unique I found with items I already have. This creative element opens up sooo many possibilities for creating/styling great pieces!
4. Checking for quality: this is so important because unfortunately not everything that gets donated is of good quality. Things are either extremely worn, stained, ripped, peeling, etc. so you should always throughly check your finds. Quality of fabric is super important too because you want something that will last a long time! That’s why I love finding vintage items because they’re usually made of good, durable material and have lots of life in them!
5. Mindset: FASHION IS FLUID so breakaway from the idea that just because you identify as a man/woman, you can only shop in the men’s/women’s section! You miss out on so many great finds by limiting yourself. When you understand that clothes are an extension of our multi-faceted Self, shopping becomes more liberating bc your clothes become tools for freedom of self expression!✨
